Kanthari Organization
Right from my early school years, I have cherished the dream of becoming a social project change maker. This yearning has primarily derived from the fact that hailing from a family and a community that was in a rural setup, who frequently faced numerous economic challenges and starvation, I have known the pain and confusion of poverty. Throughout my childhood, I have remained exposed to deprivation that characterized the lives of people from minority groups. The direct experience I had with my parents, the wide gap between haves and have-nots, and the indifference that the society demonstrates when it comes to the destitute, made me feel that someone should take notice and do something. I felt to be the voice of reason in my community.
Similarly, I attended senior school and my university in an urban neighborhood, where I went to school with children who remained deprived of common necessities. I have equally faced the challenges head on as they existed within my environments of upbringing. Attaining my education has been a herculean task throughout my school life. This has been majorly due to money insufficiency and poverty. Through resilience, hard work and dedication I managed to pull through and attain my undergraduate degree. I have been an exemplary performer in my education and my project which I felt would bring change to my community and try to combat poverty. It has been made possible through well-wishers and partners who saw potential in me which brought to birth of South to South Community Based Organization. Thus, I have remained exposed to problems of children and families that suffered due to lack of awareness and means to lead meaningful lives.
In life, we’ll be remembered for either problems we create or problems we solve. Consider it an honor to be a problem solver. I pride myself to fall in the latter group of problem solvers. Having witnessed untold sufferings of the local community facing poverty and hunger due to ignorance and lack of awareness, I felt that I could bring a positive impact to the rural folks. Land subdivision and family land successions have had a devastating effect on the senior citizens and the youths of this small God given haven. The most productive arable lands have been cultivated for production of long season cash crop-sugarcane, which in itself has attracted a ray of condemnation due to corruption, collapse of factories and lack of payment to farmers hence enslaving the entire community condemning all of its generation to a permanent poverty nest.
Doing good deeds to people has been my daily motivation and forte. It keeps me going and moving forward, offering self-satisfaction in the activities I undertake to change the world to be a better place for everyone. The project’s vision remains live in our daily activities. We strive to help the old and the vulnerable members of the society access food and inspire the community to adopt technology based farming practices. The vision has quite well shaped the project’s idea and its feasibility. The project was established as a Community Based Organization with sole aim of empowering young people to give back to the community by using their acquired education skills to help mitigate various challenges within the community-stimulating development from within!
The project idea was conceptualized through living experience. I literally lived the project from my childhood upbringing, interacting with the community through to the college where I acquired an expanded idea of the project. It’s at the university level that I realized that I could open the idea to the entire world and seek favorable donor partners that would steer me towards achieving the project goal. The Pollination Project- a US based Non-Profit organization made it possible for the full-fledged project idea roll out and catapulted our activities tremendously. In realizing my project idea, I intend to continue working with the old partners and sourcing new partners with similar interests towards achieving and fulfilling the project’s activities wide and beyond.
From life experience, I have gained determination and inspiration to become a social change maker. The experience has instilled in me the knowledge that social impact change makers can be a dominant positive influence on the lives of people that are in distress. This further consolidates my notion that social projects are noble ventures that can contribute to the wellbeing of humans and, therefore, I want to pursue a leadership training at Kanthari Organization.
Kanthari is the best place that I feel can equip me with the necessary skills that are vital towards realizing my project’s goals. This is in line with your organization’s concept of offering tailored leadership skills through an immersive, hands-on and intensive training program. The program ensures that participants are well equipped with all techniques, methods and id
