What is China’s development model? Also known as Beijing consensus or Chinese economic model refers to the people republic of China’s economic and political policies, which were instituted by Deng Xiaping in 1976 after Mao Zedong’s death. These policies have added to China’s growth in gross national product over twenty years.
China has surpassed the United States as the world’s largest economy measured by purchasing power parity (PPP) according to an announcement made by the International Monetary Fund, United States has held this position since 1873 when it took over from Great Britain.
Kenya can therefore, learn a lot from China’s model as highlighted below:
Initiate state- led development: China has ranked as one of the fastest growing economy in the world over the last three decades, it has also become the largest trading country and has attracted large amount of foreign investors all this due to model of state development. China model defend the state-owned economy and its vested interests as an advanced economic management without the constraints of the Western value package (Zhengqiu, 1998). Kenya can use state initiated programs that will enhance growth and remove injustices that are often experienced in uncontrolled market, the country can learn that when development are led by the state the country will grow uniformly and there margin between rich and poor will be reduced.
