An alleged group regarding themselves as the Guardians Of Peace compromised the data stored in the database of the Sony Pictures. This move left the Sony Company network crippled for a number of days. Moreover, valuable information such as the unreleased movies were posted online. There were vague accusations surrounding the case that North Korea was responsible for the malicious attack in vengeance for the pending release of the film ‘The Interview’. Over years, there has been many political motivated cyber crimes; however, Sony Pictures hack stands out for a wide array of reasons (Kurtz & Boone, 2014).
Firstly, through a Pastebin link, GOP released links to torrent files that were hosted on four sites made up of 26 parts, and were later disarmed to twenty-five 1GB files. The files were uploaded to the file that shared giants MEGA, as well as Rapidgator; however, it was later removed by the site managers. The moves adopted by the gang made it easier for the RMS Researchers to access and analyze the files and their contents prior to information going off-line.
