Statement of Purpose (Essay Sample)

My earliest memories are of me tolerating criticism from people close to me. It was hard to realize that I did not have a problem. I was harmed because I hated myself and did not accept myself enough to know and to feel that I had nothing to prove to anyone. Music was my solace and it’s from music that I first came to understand psychology.
I recorded a song (cover) and the feedback from listeners was overwhelming. The song, particularly, was about my life and how I was dealing with my esteem. I thought I was alone in this, but then I realized there were many people going through the same. It is through understanding others that I came to understand myself. This gave a broader view of the human mind and my interest to study psychology was deepened.
The desire and the enthusiasm to help others understand their mind and the power in it, has a huge impact on our daily lives. Moreover, psychology, as a science has helped people develop good analytical skills through the scientific methods which have been keenly researched and proven. Generally, psychology develops many skills which can applied in day to day life.
