Argument against Black History Month (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

After viewing the CBS 60 minutes video, "Freeman on Black History," write a well-organized and well-supported essay, in which you state whether you are for or against a Black History month in the United States. Your essay must include three to five reasons to support your point of view/thesis.
A well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. It is not necessary to reference Freeman or the CBS clip in any way. In this case, one might include a brief background on the history of Black History month in the United States. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming your point of view as to whether or not there should be a Black History month in the United States.
A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Will you have a paragraph for each supporting reason? Will you divide the body of your paper into three or five paragraphs, one for each point? In any case, each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph.
The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world. Who would make such a decision and what might be the response?

Argument against Black History Month
Racism costs a country over 100,000 employment opportunities in a year. In the United States of America, both white and black people occupy a considerable number of states. However, there has been a rising issue of discrimination based on color, the white and black. The issue is not only evident in the society it also escalates to the learning institutions where black American children are bullied. They are considered as having an African origin or having ancestors who were among the slaves working for the white around 1800 B.C. Contrarily; the black people have justified the notion by reinforcing self-hate and openly spew the issues every time an argument about racism comes up. Every human is equal and Identical, creating divisions based on skin color is illogical in any democratic country.
According to the Americans perspective, race and class are co- related. Notably, this has been caused by the social- political foundations in the country. In the 18th century, a large number of the white men obtained their wealth from the slave trade and slave labor from the black people. The white were able to build strong financial empires at the expense of the black people, the native perspective, therefore, has not changed, the black community is still riffled with unshakable poverty. Moreover, employers in a significant number of companies tend to discriminate people based on their skin color, and, therefore, the affluent white men get an opportunity to leverage their income through such employment opportunities.
Unity is critical in any nation. Having a special month meant for a particular will divide the country into partitions or rather groups based on the color. According to statistics, there is a substantial number of criticism cases based on ethnical backgrounds. Black people are portrayed as lazy and unproductive in the society. Contrarily, the largest population that receives welfare from the government is the white people. The question that arises is why a population that is characterized by the whites, the affluent would, still require financial aid form the government while the group criticized seem to be financially sound? According to statistics taken to scrutinize the percentage of the whites who benefit from the program, the percentage of the whites exceeds the blacks by one percent. A majority of the black people are not beneficiaries of the welfare program and a considerable number of them are either employed or in business. However, it is impossible to have a society that depends solely on itself. In 1996, President Clinton signed the amendment of the ‘Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act’. The Act contained strict rules and conditions for one to qualify as a recipient of the program. The requirements include proof of unemployment and certificates that ascertain disability.
A countries prosperity and progress depends on the prospects. In America, a significant number of white people still view black people from ‘slavery’ perspective. The past has adverse effects to today’s occurrences as well as the future. The black people who were in slavery led to the creation of tremendous wealth that today has been put into big businesses in the Fortune 500 such as Walmart. During such slavery period, the black people had no rights. However, their efforts and hard work is evident and is of impact to the nation today. Strong companies are a source of revenue to both the government and the society through employment opportunities...
