In his article, Mengash (2020), proposes a framework which higher education institutions can capitalize on in making more informed decisions in admission processes. She asserts that tertiary learning institutions should make predictions on learners’ academic performance before admitting them. The primary advantage of this study constitutes the provision of models which if utilized appropriately can optimize higher learning institutions’ limited resource distributions. These models are: Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree, and Artificial Neural Network (ANN).
Stijn Broecke (2012), capitalizes on evidence obtained from UK data on applications and admissions to university to base his conclusions. He posits that there are numerous advantages accrued to obtaining admission into more selective institutions of higher learning. His findings resonate well with results collected from previous studies conducted in the UK. Broecke however, fails to accentuate his focus on past studies in other areas such as the United States which fail to depict a positive correlation between attending selective learning institutions and the assurance of higher earnings in workplace settings. This constitutes the major limitation of this article.
