Researchers opt for either qualitative or quantitative research methods based on theoretical, practical, and ethical factors. The two techniques share some similarities and also have some key differences that separate them. Besides, each approach has specific advantages and disadvantages.
One similarity between them is that the information collected is ultimately qualitative. While quantitative research uses numbers as raw data, these numbers are collected based on justifications, which renders the research qualitative. According to Suter (2014), quantitative researchers often utilize probability sampling, which is based on justifications. Consequently, the researcher has to choose certain numbers in place of others.
