Art refers to activities conducted by human all over the world. It involves a diverse range of work that requires technical and imaginative know how. Art includes the formation of images through paintings, sculptures and photography. Music, on the other hand is a kind of art that is passed on through sound. Music has various elements that include pitch, rhythm, and dynamics. Music and art may seem as useless subjects in school, but research shows that they are useful in the development of the youth. The research has shown that education in art and music for young people has very many benefits. Music and art education provide the youth and young people a background for them to learn. It also helps them become fast learners in other academic subjects and provide them with abilities and skills that help them to be successful in life.
Many schools consider music and art subject as a time wasting subject. Teachers in various schools fear teaching arts and music because they consider themselves not competent in arts too. This feeling cause the teachers to have a personal insecurity that makes them not teach it. On the contrary, teachers shouldn’t have these feeling. The reason behind this is that there are many people in the community who have knowledge in arts. They can gain knowledge from them and pass it on to their students. Teachers can also gain knowledge from the internet in music and arts and pass it to their students.
Music and arts knowledge is also not realized as ability equal to economics or engineering. Parents believe that music doesn’t lead to their kids having white collar and stable jobs. Parents should change their attitude towards music and arts. They should regard it as any other subject their children learn at school and can help the in life also. If this action happens, music and art will also be a mandatory subject in schools. Research has also shown that it’s very difficult for the youth to be creative with the only subjects they study in school. Music and art should be mandated to increase the creativity of students. Parents should let their kids make their decisions on what they would like to learn and do in schools. They should especially be allowed to make their own decisions on whether they would like to study arts and music.
Research has shown that music and art is very important to the youth. It should be mandated in schools for various reasons. Music and art is important since it contributes to a super working memory for the youth (Pallesan K 2010). People who have youth education have a better memory for performing their work than those without. Musical training has helped musicians able to remember various tasks. Music education helps in problem solving and reasoning abilities. This ability helps in completing difficult orders such as performances. Due to this fact music should be mandated in schools.
Music studies also increase the youth’s self- esteem and also acquire studying smart habits. Research has shown that student who studies music is very ready to join colleges than those who don’t take music. Students taking discipline are disciplined and focused. The reason behind this is due to performance and music training they undertake before joining college. Music training also improves the youth social life. Youths undertaking music studies can socialize well with others better than those not studying music. This reason has enabled the youth studying music and art have high self- esteem than those not taking it.
Learning music and art increases the creativity of students. This reason makes it to be recommended as a mandatory subject in schools. Creativity improves the youth development since they can be innovative and come up with new ideas. Many employers all over the world consider creativity as one of the best skills any employee would have. Thus, music studies help the youth undertaking them in not only music careers but other careers also. Students who graduate from music schools are very creative. They learn that creativity, teamwork, thinking critically and sharing information are abilities necessary in their jobs despite where they are assigned to work. Whether they are in a music career or any other, they always make use of these skills. Music studies also help students be original and flexible. These two aspects lead to students taking music being creative and innovative. This reason makes music an important and mandatory subject in schools. Creativity also helps in development of the youth (Gouzassis P 2007).
Music and art should also be mandated in schools. Research has shown that students taking music and art persevere a lot to achieve their goals. Students taking music don’t give up easily rather than their peers. Music students are more motivated, persistent and committed. They are able to handle any obstacle that comes in between them and their goals and this is what perseverance is all about.
