Options For Employment-Based on my Education Level.
At the present time, I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing. This level of study opens up a variety of career options in the market, such as working as a registered nurse, nurse manager, case manager, or reviewer (Auerbach et al., 2015). These nursing employment prospects are due to the abilities and information I received while pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which includes delivering direct and indirect care as well as leading, coordinating, and developing care systems. Providing indirect and direct care has given me the skills and information to become a patient advocate, educator, and collaborator with their families. As a patient advocate, I will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, evaluating care outcomes, and demonstrating leadership in the performance of my tasks in a variety of patient care contexts, individuals, families, communities, and the public.
The bachelor of science in nursing degree has equipped me with the skills to design, coordinate, and manage patient care, as well as knowledge on supervision, evaluation, and delegation of tasks between healthcare providers based on the inter-professional coordination and cooperation involved in providing the best healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
After completing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), I will be deemed competent enough to be a registered nurse. Providing indirect and direct care will allow me to work in hospitals or nursing homes in a variety of healthcare settings (Auerbach et al., 2015). A nurse manager is another choice in the nursing job market, where leadership abilities in the coordination and collaboration of healthcare professionals will allow you to work in administrative roles or as a team leader for a specific nursing team while still working as a registered nurse (Auerbach et al., 2015). I may function as a case manager or reviewer, which entails assisting insurance and healthcare institutions with paperwork and insurance concerns such as reviewing claims and coding medical inquiries from patients.
Pursuit of Professional Certification and Degrees, Reasoning, and Timelines
The IOM Future of Nursing Recommendation calls on healthcare providers, particularly nurses, to enhance their educational levels. This is due to the necessity to fill the shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly specialist healthcare providers, to satisfy the requirements of the American people. As a result, nurses are encouraged to engage in lifelong learning since it improves patient outcomes and develops knowledge and skills throughout the healthcare system (Rees et al., 2015). As a result, I intend to pursue a doctoral degree and become a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Nursing Practitioner (NP) certification.
DNP-NP programs are available at several colleges, allowing nurses to obtain their DNP while also completing the prerequisites for NP certification. My emphasis in the DNP-NP programs will be on Inter-professional cooperation, organizational and system leadership and management, and the utilization of technology and information in healthcare.
Successful completion and attainment of this certification will demand three to four years of full-time education such as credits and clinical practice hours (Maryville University, 2021). The timeframe is because I will pursue this academic education and certifications part-time while working as a registered nurse. Furthermore, thanks to technological advancements, many courses are now available as online courses with low physical attendance requirements, which will help me achieve my objectives.
The Impact of Increased Education Levels on Nursing Job Market Competitiveness and Future Roles
Because of the preferences of healthcare institutions to recruit people with higher education as they enhance patient outcomes, the increased demand for DNP nurses and their services, the advocacy role in developing health policy, and the leadership role in developing health policy, increasing my level of education through a DNP-NP program will enhance my competitiveness in the current job market and roles (AACNursing, 2021).
Higher levels of education for nurses have been attributed to better patient outcomes, especially now that nurses are practicing to the full spectrum of their degree and training. Higher education entails gaining knowledge and abilities in complicated and sophisticated technological settings in healthcare settings, which will result in better patient outcomes. According to a 2013 research, hospitals that employed nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) had lower patient death rates than other hospitals (AACNursing, 2021).
