International migration is believed to have accelerated over the past fifty years whereby migrants travel abroad to specific destinations due to various pull and push factors. As a result of the diversity in terms of destination and origin of the migrants, complex global migration patterns have emerged. Today, migration is driven by family history, search for better education, employment opportunities, environmental factors among others that have influenced labor and migration patterns.
I was born and raised and Beijing, China but later on, I migrated with my family to Seattle. Back in China, in pursuit of further education, my parents also moved from their places of birth to Beijing where they engaged in the education business. In China, there is a common trend where students move abroad in search of better education and I also followed the same when I migrated to Seattle to get admission to the University of Washington to better my education.
My family history is directly connected with globalization where education is the key factor in our migration. Students all over the world apply for scholarships or sponsor themselves to study abroad where they can get better or different education that they believe suits their career ambitions. The US is a major destination for the students, other countries such as Australia, Germany, Belgium among other nationalities also take part in the globalization trend. This trend affects labor patterns as well because some students migrate permanently and obtain citizenship of those countries. This in return supplies more labor to the receiving country while depriving the sending country of the labor. The receiving countries end up benefiting more from the trend.
