Round and Flat Characters in Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
The presentation of the literature depends on various aspects of the written work. When developing the book's subject matter, the element of the place, plot, theme, and storyline depend on the literary work's character. The round characters revolve around the individual that is dynamic as they change as the story continues. Also, the flat characters are the rigid characters in the literature that remains on the same level for a given time. Essentially, the paper characterization expounds on the theme of static or flexible characters and the center in most years back.
At the time, Mariam did not understand. She did not know what this word harami--bastard--meant Nor was she old enough to appreciate the injustice, to see that it is the creators of the harami who are culpable, not the harami, whose only sin is being born.
The example of the lines indicates that Mariam is a child. Thus the author would advance most of the themes progressively as the story proceeds. Also, it demonstrates that Mariam is a round character in the story. As she grows to reach adulthood, she would have interacted with many characters to assist the readers in identifying them within the story. Additionally, the interaction with new people in the story will assist in advancing new themes, storylines, and the story's plot. Therefore, dynamic characters change according to time and figures. Thus, Mariam acts as the embodiment of development within the novel. Similarly, Mariam is metaphorical as a form of glue that attaches the entire book. Most of the issues in the book revolve around and her. She is depicted to have a double character where she would be good, and the next when throwing rowdy words in the as she tries to calm the feminists' ego down.
Nana represents the typical flat characters in the novel. Her perception of life does not change for many years since the ordeal that made her a mother. Nana is the mother of Mariam, a bitter woman indicating the plight of women in marriages. For instance, she loses her teenage lover and ends up getting pregnant before marriage. She ends up being a very strict and bitter parent who sees nothing as pure rubbish. 
She is a dynamic character within the story; she advances teenage pregnancies that affect most women by cutting short most of their dreams. Also, the out of wedlock pregnancy is illustrative of the changing Islamic laws, and accommodating new changes allows the survival of children and women who have out of wedlock pregnancies. Additionally, she also symbolizes the short life and how it can be made difficult by the social construct that neglect and mishandles women. She later commits suicide to indicate the mental trauma that affects most youth and adult members in the society. Through Nana, most of the themes are advanced in the novel and teach that abortion is not the last option after unwanted pregnancy or messes up a teenager's life.
At the stream, Mariam waited by the spot they had agreed on the day before. In the sky, a few gray, cauliflower-shaped clouds drifted by. Jalil had taught her that gray clouds got their color by being so dense that their top parts absorbed the sunlight and cast their own shadow along the base. That's what you see, Mariam jo, he had said, the dark in their underbelly.
Jalil in A Thousand of Splendid Suns represents a minor character in the story. He maintains most of his stances from his young age to old age. Hossain has assigned the character of Mariam’s father, who is a wealthy entrepreneur in the city. The man is depicted as a heartless man in the story; he represents the youths who impregnate girls and avoid the child's responsibilities. For instance, Jalil abandons her only illegitimate daughter, following the wishes of her other wives. However, life catches up with him as his desires do not end up as planned; she does not get another child and starts regretting how he treated her daughter and pronounced his love for Mariam.

Despite Jalil’s fame and success in the movie industry, most of his life does not change. However, he neglects the family responsibilities of taking care of Nana and her child Mariam. Hossain’s depict him giving gifts to her daughter consisting if some letters and some inheritance, which is rare in most society. It indicates some changes in his life, and he works hard to fix his mistakes before his death. However, he married Mariam to an older man against her wishes, which depicts a betrayal. Therefore, Jalil is a flat character as very few changes have occurred in his life and have not influenced other characters' growth in the novel.

Her parents are depicted as modern parents who have attached a high value to education and boosts among those who support girls' empowerment in society. Laila profoundly influences many youths as they are depicted telling her of the possibilities of being the newspaper's first page. Also, her parents are ready to give emotional support; for instance, her father can change many societal issues in Afghanistan despite the regular incidences of wars in the country.
