Institutional Affiliation Students Name Professor Course Date Al Capone, also known as Scarface, is one of the famous characters in American crime history that represents the disorder of the prohibition era and the firm rule of corrupt government during that time. Born in Brooklyn in 1899, Capone's character is marked by illegal alcohol production and distribution, violence, and ruling. He gained prominence when he eliminated competing gangs through intimidation, thus becoming the terror gangster in US history. Nevertheless, he brought down Capone's criminal empire. Interestingly, it took time for him to be prosecuted for income tax evasion in 1931, one of the only few cases where a gangster was tried (Garner et al., 2020). He was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment and heavily fined. Also, he developed syphilis while in custody. He was released in 1939 with many illnesses, which kept him in pain till his death after a few months. Al Capone's biography and misdeeds still influence popular culture in America. Multiple books, films, and TV shows are based on him. Nevertheless, not just Capone's success in criminal activities gained him so much popularity; it was the cruel methods they used to secure it for them and maintain their strongholds"(Thurin et al., 2020). His criminal empire was based on violence, intimidation, and corruption. Many fierce conflicts with other gangs characterized Capone's time, and he earned the title of a person of the greatest fear among the criminal authorities. His criminality was so bold that it questioned the boundaries of law enforcement and the judicial system of Prohibition (Pasley, 2020). Al Capone's evil reputation and uncompromising approach toward business led to his downfall, leaving a significant mark on crime history.
