Proper nutrition is not only important for daily up-keep but also for optimum performance in athletes. Different types of food in various proportions are responsible for enhancing the performance of a weight class athlete. Consequently, nutrition plays an important role in conditioning athletes for the best results from their workouts as well as proper bodies for their matches. There is an unofficial saying in sports that goes, proper nutrition does not make a great athlete but poor nutrition can lead to poor performance. Essentially, nutrition coupled with talent and intense practice leads to satisfactory results by athletes (Manore, 2015). The amount, composition and timing of meals gives the best results of nutrition. A major benefit of good nutrition for weight class athletes is that it leads to more intense training, better performance and effective repair and prevention of injuries.
