A New Look at Poverty
The videos give an interesting take on poverty. However, the underlying theme for all seems to be that poverty is relative. The different ways that define poverty show the perspective that one is using to view poverty. The most used perspective of poverty is monetary. Monetary perspectives dictate that poor people live their lives on one dollar a day or under a dollar. For this reason, the monetary perspective renders most people poor. On the other hand, poverty can be viewed on a demographic perspective. The locality that a person occupies shows their poverty level. The talk by Jacqueline Novogratz describes poverty as the quality of individual life. The woman in the story on the talk was poor but lived her life in way that constantly improved the quality of her life. Essentially, elevation from poverty like Jessica puts it in her talk is more important to poverty than donations.
