Black Panther afro-futuristic themes
Black Panther was a story about an African community in a manner which has never been portrayed before. It went against the western centric views of Africa which only provide themes of wilderness, violence, war and desolation. Black Panther provided a mixture of a futuristic yet afro-centric perspective. Wakanda is a fictional African nation which discovered vibranium. That in turn made it the most technologically advanced nation in the world. However, they elected to retreat from the affairs of the world so they grew in secret.
The Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman is by no means the first foray by Hollywood into fictionalized African kingdoms. Before the age of Wakanda, there was Zamunda which is also a utopia land in Africa. The two were unique because they were stable countries with able governments and strengths that were not shown in other portrayals of African states during the 20th and 21st centuries. The only difference was the manner that Wakanda was illustrated which was not only above the other nations in technology, but it was also above the western nations. The population of Wakanda were also aristocratic, intelligent and good natured when they needed to be. The military was quite capable of handling external threats as well.
