There is a growing recognition at an international capacity that child marriage is a human rights violation that works to impediment social and economic development. Despite the extensive discontentment with the practice, 48 US states allow the marriage of minors, individuals below the age of 18, as of August 2018 (Waji, Zaleski, Lampe, Bevan, & Koski, 2019). A study published in February 2017 by the Girls Not Brides indicated that the decade between 2000 and 2010 witnessed more than 248,000 children marriages, mostly involving young girls marrying adult men. Child marriage is often linked to a wide variety of adverse health, economic, and social outcomes as such vital to analyze the processes that lead to child marriage the lived experiences of child brides in the USA. Grounded on Maria's scenario, a 16-year-old married to 25-year-old man, the paper argues child marriage is detrimental to the economic and social development of the individual and by extension the society.
