Introduction
A speech critique focuses on an analytical approach that defines the actual dimensions a specific speech. The speech analyst dives deep and counterchecks all the aspects deployed in the literary art as a means of evaluation of what resulted to the excellence portrayed or lack thereof. This paper focuses on the Martin Luther King Jnr. Famous speech “I have a dream.†The speech is termed as the historical, literary art that has electrified the entire nation of the United States since it was delivered in August 1963. The speech reminds the entire humanity that we ought to live with esteemed ideals and that everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
To begin with, the core fundamental tenets that coerced me to selectively pick on this speech is the towering core subjective matter upon which it was delivered based on demand to eradicate racial injustice in a wildly complex society which has been now been transformed into a mantra for the “Negro†society, and it’s a mirror of the subsequent American generations as the United States Declarations of independence. The words expressed in this speech are evident of the touchstone pillar for the awareness of the socio-political battle of the time and availed the black Americans a chance and a clear platform to express what was transpiring within the background. Martin Luther King Jnr introduces the speech with an assertion that all persons were equally created and further highlights that, though the propositions asserted were not prevalent at the time in the U.S, Martin Luther felt that it ought to be the case at the near future. In this context, Martin Luther addresses the fundamental tenets powerfully and passionately.
Stylistically, the masterfully interwoven speech can be described as a poetical art, political treatise and a perfectly delivered in a spontaneous sermon, exploding with biblical mastery and imagery. The speech expresses a perfect rhythm and a matched repetition for key note emphasis. The King further deploys alliteration as a cornerstone device to hammer home the main points. Martin Luther expresses the message in an ingenious influential approach and in an excellently articulated language that both the audience can easily relate to and understand.
There are key fundamental cornerstones that took part in the outreaching impact of this speech. To begin with, the astounding emotions expressed in Martin Luther Kings’ speech delivery in regards to both his voice and body movements which seemed to emphasize the core essence of this speech. Furthermore, the niche of the speech address seems to be effectively selected, on the steps of the memorial to the President, who defeated southern states over the issue of slavery. I addition, the mood captured in the entire speech portrayed a perspective of resilience to stab out racial discrimination and slavery among black Americans. Also, he deployed emotive vocabulary by using phrases such as “it would be fatal for the nation…†this further creates empathy in his speech. Martin Luther King hence, successfully manages to mobilize his audience to take action through his carefully and masterfully crafted genius with a distilling hope, vision, and influence.
In addition, Martin Luther King expresses balanced composure throughout the speech. His repose and unshakable self-confidence coupled with strong and commanding tone is displayed in the entire speech. The speech seems to paint his core mission of activating liberation for the black American. He expresses that even if it would cost him his life to fulfill it, he would have still committed to the course. He further maintains eye contact with his audience....
