When you write a persuasive essay in response to a reading, it is important to have a well-defined position on the subject you are discussing. You guide your writing by developing a strong thesis statement at the beginning of your essay. The thesis statement sets the tone and context of the essay. Once you have a thesis in place, it is easier to visualize the rest of the essay.
As you respond to the reading, be aware of how you are supporting your overall position. For your essay to be convincing, each of your arguments requires solid supportive evidence such as examples, anecdotes, facts and statistics, quotations, or summaries of other works. You ultimately use this supportive evidence to prove to your audience that your position on the essay topic is a valid one.
In this Assignment, you write a persuasive essay in response to a reading. You develop a thesis statement and support your arguments with evidence.

In the essay "Cyber School" Clifford Stoll focuses on future learning environments, where computers, the internet and e-learning will play a more prominent role in the classroom. The role of Cyber School has gained more prominence because of flaws in traditional classroom teaching including use of outdated textbooks and backward teaching approaches (Nadell et al., 2010). Nonetheless, the author fails to point out that even traditional classrooms have different learning environments. This paper highlights that cyber schools many not necessarily create a better learning environment or provide better education opportunities.
Cyber schools give learners the opportunity to learn at their own pace, but it is impractical to rely too much on technology to facilitate education. This is especially true for students with low motivation who tend to lag behind other students (Tudorache et al., 2012). At the same time, there are students who are more comfortable in the traditional learning settings. Such students are motivated to learn and interact with fellow students and teachers. On the other hand, cyber schools do not deal with issue of isolation, and hence isolated students with low motivation are likely to experience difficulties in virtual learning.
Even though, Stoll highlights on some of the positive aspects of virtual schools through improving preparation of standardized tests there are limits to this approach. Unlike traditional schools, there is minimal interaction in cyber schools, while students rely less on the advice of instructors to improve learning. Independence is an important aspect of learning, but teachers offer guidance to students and learners, while human to human interaction cannot be ignored in improving educat...
