Self-esteem and self-concepts are terminologies that people may tend to have challenges in differentiating them that both traits affect an individual’s view of themselves. Self-esteem and self-concepts have significant differences in meaning that distinguish the two. A self-concept is an idea or perception that a person has of oneself (Marsh et al., 2019). Self-esteem is the evaluations and judgments that a person makes regarding oneself (Branden, 2021). Therefore, I will discuss the difference between self-concept and self-esteem for this discussion post. In addition, I will provide an overview of how the self-concept affects interactions.
For instance, the below example shows the differences that exist between self-concept and self-esteem. Therefore, Self-concept is how a person may view herself based on their skills, temperament, or habit, whereas self-esteem is a view or attitude that a person may have regarding themselves. Gipson's dad viewed his behavior as a sluggish person during his childhood, impacting the self-concept of who he is. However, during his growth and life patterns, Gipson realizes that he is not lazy like his d;2ad described it. Thus, that is just a self-concept that Gipson had due to his dada's view over his behavior.
A person with healthy self-esteem has a positive outlook, realistic valuations on ones' weaknesses or strengths, and above all, confidence in carrying out activities (Tus, 2020). On the other hand, self-esteem is seen when Gipson when strives so hard in his life patterns since he believes he is not lazy but indeed valuable and intelligent to handle any given situation. Therefore, self-esteem can highly influence the self-concept of an individual. Self-concept affects our interactions in many ways (Cooper et al., 2018). For instance, Gipson has a self-concept he is a lazy person. As a result of his interaction with other people, he may feel embarrassed that other people
