Is Adolescence the Happiest Time in One’s Life?
Adolescence is one of the crucial periods in human development, which is regarded as a transitional stage between childhood and adulthood. Newman (2018) describes adolescence as a period that involves intensive growth in almost all aspects of a person’s mental, physical, emotional, and social life. During adolescence, young people exhibit characteristics such as appearance consciousness, desire for autonomy, search for self, and the need to belong to a specific group of peers. As young people go through adolescence, they face challenging choices regarding their social life, sexuality, school, alcohol, and drugs (Newman, 2018). However, it is evident that during adolescence, teenagers experience their happiest moments in life.
Throughout adolescence, young people have too much time to spend in acquiring new skills and knowledge. Adolescents do not have to worry about making money to pay for their daily needs. On the contrary, their parents facilitate them by paying their expenses as well as any cost associated with their learning in various institutions. Additionally, adolescents do not only spend their time learning new skills but also doing physical exercises to stay healthy and strengthen their bodies, which is one of the day-dreams for a significant number of adults who spend much of their time in the workplace (Sigelman & Rider, 2008).
