Assignment 2: Journal Entry #1
Urinalysis Tract Infection (UTI) is a foremost health unruly for women across the globe. Moreover, the bacteria rise from the occupied urethra into the bladder and can similarly climb into the kidney if early intrusions are not made (Bengtsson & Carlson, 2015). Schuiling and Likis (2017) argue that in 2007, 8.6 patients showed up in the hospital seeking ambulatory care assistance with the main analysis of the infection. Therefore, it is a rationale of this paper to give deep-rooted information on the nurse’s experience in dealing with UTI patients and feedback to the preceptor.
Nurse’s Experience
Nurses face diverse challenges when they interact with patients. During practice, nurses encounter challenges that result from communication, the inconsistency in anticipation, and social beliefs (Hardavella, 2017). To start with communication, I faced a challenge in that I disclosed information to the patient without considering the appropriateness of the setting. Additionally, during interaction with the patient is applied to meager nonverbal communication. This hindered the patient from comprehending what was required. Also, concerning the discrepancy in expectation, there was a challenge in that the patient had done research online and concluded on the infection. Therefore, the results and findings never agreed with that of the patient this brought a challenge. Lastly, cultural belief hindered our interaction in the patient believed infection was a result of an ancestral curse.
I learned a lot from this interaction. Firstly, as a nurse, I need to use effective communication skills while interacting with patients. Additionally, I also learned that I need to take time and explain to patients about their conditions. Also, I need to interact with patients more to learn about their beliefs. Despite the challenges, some resources helped me to handle the patient. To start with, I used charts to explain to the patient how the bacteria arise into the bladder. Secondly, I used the desktop and internet to display to the patient how infection varies from one patient to another.
During this interaction, I applied Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). I applied the Problem Intervention Comparison Outcome Time (PICOT) model to handle the patient’s condition. In this model nurses ask the patient queries concerning the illness, search for evidence online, and integrate clinical understanding on treatment the patient (The University of New Mexico, 2016). Additionally, I was able to accommodate the patient’s partiality as well as put on the result.
Currently, I am learning nursing practice skills that will help me to interact with patients and staff. Patient care skills are helping me to understand patients’ cultural beliefs and how they vary. Understanding cultural beliefs helps nurses to provide the best healthcare (Walden University Field Experience, n.d.). Besides, treatment planning will help me to manage and schedule treatment for the patents. However, in practice, there are some things I will do differently. Firstly, I will pay attention to the details given by the patient. I will apply critical thinking in solving some problems. This will help me to balance resources and time while serving patients. I am managing patient flow and volume by paying consideration to the growth of specialisms in the hospital. I am also investigating the biggest gateways of the entrance to the hospital to help me manage the patient flow.
Communication and Feedback
There are several ways I can use to improve my skills. I can do intensive research on my career and what is expected of me. Secondly, I can go through my experience and that of other nurses to prepare for t
