Nursing is an age-old practice that has improved the lives of many people in and out of hospitals. The nursing metaparadigm revolves around caregiving and the patient-nurse relationship. The interaction is based on the core personal philosophies held by both the nurse and the institution they represent. As a nurse, these philosophies are not only internally encoded but are as a result of the external environment. For instance, the Miami Dade College core values are geared to providing an exceptional learning environment with the focus on accountability that will enable cultural and environmental awareness. These philosophies are mirrored by the Benjamin Leon Nursing school and renowned hospitals such as the Mount Sinai medical center. As a nurse, these institutions assist in building up a character that is represented through care.
Nursing plays a critical role in health care and community enforcement. As a nurse, one is guided by the personal moral code and nursing theories. According to McCutcheon and Stalter (2017), the nursing philosophy is dynamic and evolves as careers expound. Through understanding the nursing metaparadigm, a nurse reflects on their purpose and drive. Thus, as a nurse, I identify that my philosophy remains core to the ideology that nursing is not only a science but an art. Nursing as art transcends the physical attributes and professionalism that helps in the development of interconnected care. Therefore, as a nurse, it is essential to view the profession not as work but as a practice that influences the lives of others.
