Literature is an essential medium through which people capture and relay their ideas, thoughts, and experiences. The expression of human thoughts and experiences is achieved using different strategies. These strategies, which are commonly known as genres, include fiction, drama, poetry, and non-fiction artistic works. Literature genres are distinguished from each other by shared themes, form, style, and literary conventions (Shakfa, 2012). Nevertheless, the nature and content of each genre are subject to changes in morals, cultural, and social contexts of the writers and the audience. The adaptability of each genre to the prevailing literary environment is dependent on its level of elasticity or uniqueness. Although drama is not a special genre of literature, it has several peculiarities that makes it unique compared to other genres of literature.
Drama is an essential genre of literature that is artistically presented with dialogues. The generic divisions of drama include tragedy and comedy.
