For instance, one study found that online pictures and posts were more damaging than harassment received through text messaging or phone calls.1While cyberbullying can happen in a public digital space, like on social media posts, it can also take the form of private messages—leaving some kids managing this secret, and its effect on them, alone. Being aware of all of the effects of cyberbullying cannot only help you support a child you know is affected but help you become more aware of signs that may be the reason for concern—and a conversation.

To begin with cyberbullying refers to any form of digital engagement which is often perpetrated to demean or criticize a person indecently. Cyberbullying occurs in most communication platforms like WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, email among others (Kopecky et al.105191). Mostly, bullying appears from a colleague or an ill-motivated individual intending to paint one’s character in a bad light through internet platforms.
Cyberbullying takes many forms among them online harassment (Oksanen, et al. 109). This occurs when a person posts or replies to another person’s post with a gross message intended to embarrass someone. This is common in Twitter and Facebook where people exchange experiences towards a certain topic. The second form of Cyberbullying is Outing which involves disclosing one’s personal information without due consent. It has been used to oust many politicians and celebrities thus exposing their lives.
Another form of cyberbullying and which has been constantly used by hackers to harass people comes to inform of anonymity (Vranjes et al. 409-433). This is where a bully hides identity while stalking or tarnishing one’s reputation via online forums. Lastly is frapping which refers to the act of posting gross messages, pictures videos, and other gross stuff on another person’s timeline without his/her permission (Shaikh et al. 148031-148051)
