1 What is Plato's attitude towards wealth and material prosperity?
Plato maintains an altitude that is based on virtues such as honesty. When creating wealth, the principle motive of an individual should be happiness. Plato emphasizes the need for perfection of skills as the prerequisite to genuine wealth creation. In the dialogue, a craftsman who makes errors is not credible and lacks sufficient knowledge.
Similarly, Plato has a negative attitude on wealth and prosperity that is driven the need for money as opposed to improving the sense of humanity well-being.
The satisfactions that result from serving others makes the person complete and constitute real happiness. For instance, the doctor who delights in rendering his services to treat the patient is better than the one whose objective is to make money (341c). When people try to outdo each other, they have higher tendencies to unjust practices such as stealing public resources and trying to cover up by seeking power in the public positions.
