What do you mean by change management? What is the purpose of change management? Provide an example of change management? Provide examples.
As far as projects are concerned, project managers have come to embrace the fact that change is inevitable in the course of their work. Change in the context of project management is a factor or aspect affecting, transforming, or impacting the functions, people, tasks, structures, features, and processes involved in a particular project. Quite often, people and organizations resist and react to change differently, but the trick is knowing how to manage those changes. Morgan suggested that people could understand how organizations respond to change through eight different metaphors, such as looking at the organization as either a machine, a political system, or an organism (Oates et al., 2007). Thus, through these metaphors, models such as Kotter, Carnall, and Lewin can be applied during change management processes. This paper will discuss the meaning, purpose, and examples of change management.
Change management has a myriad of definitions. Simply put, it is the mechanisms that organizations use to help their members accept, understand, commit to, and embrace modifications. To start with, change management can be defined as a structured approach used to move a project or organization from its current state to the preferred future state (Paton & McCalman, 2008). The desired future state includes new tasks, processes, structures, or roles brought about by the change. Change management also refers to the techniques and tools used to manage changes within a project and the stakeholders involved.
