The rich should pay more taxes
Globally, the taxation rate has elicited controversial debates among different stakeholders. While some people believe that rich people should pay more taxes, others argue that the hard work of the rich should be valued. To justify their opinion, the proponents maintain the wealthy take more from the government hence should replicate by paying additional taxes. On the other hand, the opponents contend that the only way an individual becomes wealthy is by working hard for the money. Hence, they should not be taxed more because they worked hard to gain money, as every person has the opportunity to do so. Therefore, taxing the rich more to support initiatives such as national security and infrastructure that benefit the poor and the middle class is economically viable
Increasing the taxes for the wealthy would help boost the economy as well as improve service delivery for the poor and middle-class population. In reality, the upper class pay fewer taxes than the underprivileged but get more state benefits. According to McGee et al. (2019), when all methods of taxes are measured, poor and average class people pay higher taxes than the wealthy who make up the minority of the population. For example, in the United States, the local and state tax rate for 20% of poor people is twice that of one percent rich people (Vitelli, 2019). Normally, when incomes are involved in the wealth-building for the rich, the overall tax declines for the super-rich, leading the poor to pay the highest taxes. Therefore, higher taxes and fewer loopholes to taxes would see any country record higher economic growth and development.
