Social cognitive theory refers to a perception which focuses on learning by observing others. This theory can be used to provide the connection between social media and sleep patterns by recording people behaviour after observing them over time. Focusing on various variables like marital status, age and the level of education one can get proof to what extent social media affects sleep patterns. First by observing the age bracket of those who are addicted by social media and also taking into account what time they are active there we can clearly say that the time to sleep is limited if a person can be active during the day as well as night. The information that people post on social media also indicates the mood they have and if they are suffering from any sleep disorder like anxiety.
Education level is another variable to consider using this theory, we can observe the behaviour of those that possess higher education and how long they are using social media and is it in any way consuming much of their time. Educated people and those in learning institutions use more of their time acquiring more information on social media as well as sharing information.
