The Importance of Flexibility in the Workplace
In today's dynamic business environments, organizations are finding it necessary to incorporate approaches that result in increased productivity. Workplace flexibility is one of these approaches and refers to conditions in an organization that favors or allow employees to respond to different circumstances readily. As much as workplace flexibility encourages organizational productivity, employees, too are in a better position to achieve career growth through the exposure they gain from engaging in different tasks and utilizing creativity in their approach to work. Workplace flexibility is essential in most organizations because it provides organizations with a broader talent pool, enhances employee morale as well as the organizational brand image.
Organizations benefit from workplace flexibility from having a deeper talent pool to achieve task completion. Most employees possess many skills that could be put to better uses if allowed to do so by their organizations. However, organizations with rigid structures limit employees from utilizing these skills by placing restrictions on them (Lee, 2017). A flexible work culture allows for individuals expression of the various skills they possess to the benefit of the organization. Consequently, organizations stand to benefit in the sense that employee learns newer skills and can be called upon in the future to perform different tasks without having to source for newer talent. A broader talent pool facilitates cost reduction in the long run since resources that could have been used in hiring and training newer talents is put to better use.
