Introduction
Race has been grouped among the many problems that affect many citizens within a society. Race has been defined as "a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits" (Green,2010). Therefore, many people in society have been served differently due to racial disparity. Race has been explained by the physical characteristics that an individual possesses, for example, a person's skin color or hair texture. Therefore, people have been grouped as black American, African, Asian, and Whites. The essay, therefore, seeks to understand the engagement between comedy and race as a social issue, using different genres while evaluating my opinion on how humor engages with this social issue.
Comedy captivates a larger audience than any other category of movies and series present in the theatres. Comedy also has a powerful control in the information that touches on the social problems brought about by race. The racial disparity has been made obvious and spoken about openly but sarcastically through comedy (Chattoo,2014). Through comedy, racial differences and stereotypes have been made sparse. The TV comedy series Neighborhood, which focuses majorly on issues of race and the relationship between races, premiered in the year 2018. In season three, the Butler family came together with the Johnson family to protest about the racial injustice that befell a member of their community in Los Angeles. They also promoted members to join the black lives matter protest in Los Angeles following the death of George Floyd. "This comedy series had a goal or an objective to reach out to an audience who lacked familiarity with the black people in America to have an understanding and sympathy and hopefully have a positive attitude towards the black people" (Bucksbaumpara 14).
