Introduction
Mixed reactions always sprout when one raises a question about the significance of video games on people’s cognitive abilities. Video games have become increasingly popular not only amongst children but also adults of all sexes. The current popularity of these games persuades several organizations to examine their impact on the cognitive performance of the players. Undoubtedly, there are several benefits of these games, though these are not feasible to many. Some scientific studies suggest that these games have significant impacts on the behavior and cognitive performance of players. However, this field remains uncharted to, especially those who have not played any game. Typically, this is because the results from these studies are not uniformly distributed, which creates a gap of uncertainty. Video games foster the processing of information among students, spatial memories and improve the analytical skills of students, thus, being crucial to improving people’s cognitive abilities.
Processing of Information among Children
Several findings among the existing studies reveal that playing video games has a significant impact on the cognitive performance of people. They have both short-term and long-term benefits for the players. In one study conducted in the US by Unsworth, Redick, Mcmillan, & Hambrick (2015), it was evident that allowing children to play these games for a month consistently improves their brain performance. Particularly, this focuses on the way information is processed by these youngsters.
