Virtues of a Great Debater and Their Importance (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

Reflection Paper
Prior to the first debate, we will take time to talk about how the debates will be structured, so that you will know what to expect. Each debate will feature two groups of 2-4 students each, allowing the rest of the class to serve as the audience. Because I recognize that some students find debating stressful and that many students are new to debate, participation in the debates is encouraged, but not mandatory, and the debates themselves will not be graded. However, you are required to debate at least once this semester.
The graded part of this assignment will be a 4-6 page reflection paper that will be due on 4/13. In this paper, you will consider the following two questions:
1. Based on your experiences participating in and/or observing the in-class debates, what are 3-5 virtues of a great debater or advocate? Why are they important?
2. Using the author(s) we have discussed thus far, consider: How would this/these author(s) define advocacy? How do the virtues that you defined in question 1 enrich this understanding of advocacy?

Virtues of a greater debater or advocate
I have had vast experience in debating and also in the observation of the debating sessions. With this, I have noted many virtues that great debaters possess. There exist some individuals who can realize the turning of the tables just with their gift to gab. This kind of people can be able to convince people a lot concerning their standing. Regardless of the people's despising of them, some people possess that feeling of wishing to be like them in life. These are the kind of people we call great debaters (Chakravorty, 2018).
It is always clear that it does not matter whether somebody is debating from a podium or expressing his/her views in a gathering. What stands to be significant is the argumentative skills the debater possesses. Some people lower themselves by saying that they were not born debaters; thus, they cannot make it in debating (Chakravorty, 2018). That one is not true at all, this one needs practising the needed virtues of good debating, and you are done hence rendering debating as a skill that can be attained through the usage of a bit of effort. The following are the virtues a great debater needs to have.
Practising calmness. This is one of the golden rules of debating. The other people on the opposing side sometimes might possess aspects that may offend one; thus, in such a scenario, individuals need not begin shouting or raising their voices and feeling angry (Chakravorty, 2018). They should keep calm their voices and practice calmness of the highest levels with the body language
