Who is Vasco Núñez De Balboa?
Vasco Núñez De Balboa is remembered as an adventurer, governor, and conqueror in Spain. He has a legacy for being the first person from Europe to discover the Pacific Ocean. He also helped establish the very first steady European colony on the South American mainland. Balboa would go to new places to seek riches and adventures as many explorers did in his days. He got to achieve both, but all this could not save him from an unfavorable ending.
Vasco Nunez was born in a town called Jerez de Los Caballeros around 1475. His parents were Nuno Arias de Balboa, a nobleman, and her mother, Lady de Badajoz, although less is known about her. In the late fifteenth century, most of Balboa's family had lost their wealth. Balboa had received training as a soldier and a knight at an early age like other children from noble families. He was later sent to Spain in Moguer, where he served the Lord of Moguer as a page. While here, he learned several skills that later helped him in his future endeavors, like training fighters and hunting.
