Work Breakdown Structure
Work breakdown structure is one of the most important concepts in management of large projects. WBS is a structural design tool used to express relationships between different project tasks. Some of its uses include helping managers to describe ideas and thoughts. WBS also helps management teams to manage and identify project work. However, there are various mistakes faced by project managers that are worth identifying.
Application of WBS as a task list is one of the most common mistakes made by managers. Making a list plan to help managers to remember what needs to be done is not described as a WBS and therefore, it cannot be used as one since it does not solve WBS problems (Asquin, Garel & Picq, 2009). Some of the issues accompanied by this mistake include making a list about who, how, and when instead of focusing on the deliverables. Managers can avoid making this mistake by ensuring their WBS list only focuses on deliverables instead of unnecessary details.
