A New World According to Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit
The yellow woman represents a woman from ancient Pueblo people, a small village in India. The yellow woman is depicted as a strong woman who takes risks and works hard to protect and feed her family at any cost. The hard work of the yellow woman was only because of the values that the Pueblo people lived on, which was all-inclusivity regardless of gender or appearance. In the Pueblo community, everyone was equal, and anyone could do anything they wanted, be it various jobs, dressing styles and they could even choose any spouse they wanted. The narrator in the story grew up in a friendly environment where to her, everyone was equally important and had the same opportunities, until she started going to school when she began feeling different because she looked different from other students, being from a mixed white and Indian family.
The ancient Laguna pueblo community portrays an imaginative and new world that would be better for everyone to live in, a world with no discrimination whatsoever and with favorable conditions that would allow men to co-exist peacefully with the environment while conserving it. This new world is a just one equalizes people no matter the gender, age, race, or even physical appearance.
