Fundamentally, the process of bereavement acts as a mode of consoling the affected persons. Uncomplicated Bereavement Uncomplicated bereavement involves movement toward integrated grief as time passes. For example, after the loss, some people start to amalgamate the loss into certainty and return to the normal activities despite the fact that life is not the same as it was before the loss (Houben, 2011). Grief Grief is an individual’s overwhelming emotion that follows the loss of a loved one. It is where one feels numb and removed from daily life chores. Grief makes a person unable to perform his or her normal duties because he or she is saddled with the sense of loss of a close person. Additionally, grief can be associated with a process of trying to seek person’s assistance. The realization that such help is available is termed as a loss (Houben, 2011). Complicated Grief It is period when feelings of loss are unbearable and the process does not easily improve. Painful emotions connected with the loss are long lasting and severe because a person does not accept the fact that he or she has lost a loved one, and hence, it takes time to resume their normal lifestyle. Additionally, complicated grief gains a foothold and becomes the chronic and devastating mental health condition that deteriorates with time, instead of ameliorating (Stroebe et al., 1993). Significantly, complicated grief is a period of loss that affects a person from a mental point of view. Prolonged Grief Prolonged grief usually means a condition that reveals itself with a discrete set of symptoms in an individual. The warning signs arise after the death of a loved one or a close relative. Furthermore, the process is often very long and so concentrated that it exceeds the expectably wide array of individual and artistic unpredictability. Prolonged grief is a period that involves loss of a person, but the period of recovery is usually witnessed within a long period before recovery is attained (Spall & Callis, 1997). Traumatic Grief Traumatic grief is a type of sorrow that results from the loss of a beloved person in the tragic events like acts of terrorism or natural disasters. The outcome of undergoing a traumatic loss is the presence of the feeling of numbness, difficulty in work, and inability to concentrate. Apparently, it is a type of loss that brings a person’s normal way of life to a standstill (Stroebe et al., 1993). Disenfranchised Grief Disenfranchised is a type of grief where a person’s heart is grieving, but she or he cannot talk or share the pain with others as it is deplorable to them. The related grief entails a process that shows that one is sad, but surrounding people believe that it is not right for an individual to experience such pain because of the loss (Houben, 2011). In brief, those around the person suffering from the loss feel that it is either inappropriate or unworthy. Primary Loss Primary loss can be associated with losing a loved one due to a certain disease or calamity. It is known as a primary loss because it takes place first before anything else. Significantly, it is a process that makes an individual grieve because what has happened affects his or her normal way of lifestyle (Spall & Callis, 1997). Fundamentally, it is a loss that creates a sense of loneliness and distress to the primary family members. Secondary Loss On the contrary, secondary loss is a type of loss that follows the primary loss. Significantly, it also results in grief for the affected families. The process entails the feelings of distress and loss to the people involved. Moreover, it encompasses the feelings the person faces after losing a close friend or family member (Stroebe et al., 1993).
