Climate has powerful effects on the abundance and distribution of the world’s insect species. We should, therefore, expect climate and global warming to generate or create changes in many insect populations and the ecosystems that they inhabit. Warmer temperatures and climates lead to more rapid and fast survival and development in insects in the mid to high latitudes (Parent & Tardieu, 2012). This accounts for the unambiguous and detectable shifts in some insect species over the past fifty years. The increased warmth and higher temperatures also lead to the advancement of the onset of the life cycles of insects for the many species which use thermal cues to match the timing of their life history events with the ever changing seasons. For instance, mosquitos thrive in warmer climates. Due to their short life cycles, a high degree of mobility and high reproductive capacity, the physiological responses by insects to warming or increasing temperatures can also generate rapid and particularly large effects on the population dynamics of the species.
