A physician must always act in the patient’s best interest. In situations of delivering health care services to patients, threats to professionalism and questions concerning conflict of interest may arise on various grounds for instance that entails medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals (Steinbrook, 2009). This relationship creates the conflict of interest when clinicians act as public speakers or writers on behalf of the firm, accept firm’s gifts of the kind that range from drug samples and foodstuffs, and have a financial interest in a medical product whose products they prescribed (Thompson, 2009).
One of the essential ingredients in the field of health care provision is trust. If the element of trust does not exist between a patient and the physician, a mutual connection is lost. Professional conflict can injure the trust between the two parties. When a doctor goes ahead and asks more from his patients, then confidence is lost as these patients may justify that one is after their pockets and is not concerned about their health (Steinbrook, 2009).
