While the number of most affected and infected individual shows a mild symptom or no symptoms at all, going on with their routine activities exponentially spread COVID-19 virus to the population (Xinhua, 2020). The pandemic of COVID-19 has spread in the world in a short frame of time leaving overwhelming people health as well as financial consequences in the wake. Hence, it is essential to understand the relationship between COVID-19 and epigenetics aspect in a person to help understand the impact of the virus to the genetic makeup of a person and its alteration to the personal wellbeing.
The epigenetics is the gene inheritance process which is inclusive of the genetic information passage from the parent to daughter cells without the alteration of the genome type. The epigenetic inheritance controls the gene activity through the phenotype instead of genotype and modification. In the COVID-19 cases, the old and the male are linked with more severe outcomes, yet most of the young and healthy have died of the disease (Sawalha et al. 2020). However, these experiences bring the issue of several interacting factors of epigenetics, which might play a crucial role in the spread and acquisition of the virus.
The cytokine storm remains the malefactor over COVID-19 patient’s death. The cytokines are small protein molecules the body releases after encountering with infection by the inborn immune system. They are produced as a defensive mechanism of a virus the body might encounter with and hinder its incubation. Hence, due to excessive production, the cytokines mistakenly attacks its body cell, which results in the death of cells and failure of organ.
