Dengue fever is one of the mosquito borne fevers and it is transmitted by female mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species (US Department of Health)There are four distinct but closely related serotypes of the virus that cause dengue fever i.e. DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4 (US Department of Health).Dengue fever is transmitted when a mosquito bites an infected person after which the virus multiplies in the mosquito’s body and the virus is then transmitted when the mosquito bites another person (WHO 2017). A person then develops immunity to the type of virus that infected them after recovering but still remains susceptible to the other types of viruses. This paper aims at examining dengue fever, the population that is most at risk of getting infected, the health concerns of the disease, effects if the disease is left untreated and possible solutions to the epidemic that is dengue fever.
