Pediatric Home Health
The article "Lived Experience of Pediatric Home Health Care among Families of Children with Medical Complexity" by Boss et al. (2020) investigates the views of some families on infants with pediatric home health care (PHHC). The findings of the study indicate neglected family demands for clinical treatment, research, legislation, and activism addressing PHHC. Through public listserv advertisements, the researchers interviewed families with considerable experience with PHHC. The essay will summarize the article in terms of the results, their validity and applications.
Results
Among the participants, 40 families had dealt with home care, 31 families had home physical therapy, 28 had occupational treatment, 6 had speech therapy, and 14 had early intervention therapy (Boss et al., 2020). Very few had palliative and hospice experiences. The researchers conducted a conventional data analysis; however, they did not display it in the article. Five themes emerged from the experiences of these families with PHHC cases. Several concerns emerged about the lived experience of PHHC: PHHC significance, how PHHC is inextricably linked to families, how much PHHC gaps imply for families, PHHC expenditures, and the battle for PHHC. The findings showed that PHHC is vital for children with complicated medical conditions. Quality PHHC allows children to get out of hospitals, making their life longer and happier. It also maintains a family's stability and strengthens their physical, emotional, and economic well-being. The intended families have been researching methods to fill PHHC loopholes. Yet, those who counsel, supply, and develop policies for PHHC have often failed to engage such people to improve the essential services.
Results Validity
Boss et al. (2020) used public listserv advertisements to collect the results to show construct validity. Around fifty people undertook the interviews in the study, but only 48 people completed their interviews. The generalization of the results purely depends on the correlation coefficient, but the researchers did not give its value to help in generalizing the results. Therefore, the construct validity of the results is questionable. The article also portrays the highest level of sample validity, as the researchers sampled the participants nationally, providing a good representation across the country.
Application
The nurses can apply the findings of the study in their nursing practice to provide quality patient care. Physicians who deal with patients in need of PHHC must investigate how their family members use social media to interact with other people. It enables nurses to become aware of beneficial social media tools, correct misconceptions, and determine if a child's unaddressed PHHC requirements warrant clinical advocacy (Boss et al., 2020). Additionally, the nurses must oversee intentional peer-parent mentorship on PHHC services to promote parent-to-parent education about PHHC programs, interview PHHC professionals, and change PHHC facilities as children's medical requirements grow. The PHHC staff should embrace parent capacity building to enhance patient care and manage home mini-ICUs.
Clinicians must ensure that they bridge unsolved gaps in PHHC care delivery. For instance, they must educate and i
