Discussion Week 2 Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Number: Course Title Instructor’s Name Assignment Due Date Informed Consent in Adult and Pediatric Psychiatry The provision of informed consent continues to be one of the most pressing concerns in contexts related to mental health. Respect for individuals, which is related to the ethical ideal of autonomy, is emphasized in the process of providing informed consent. Other bioethical criteria, such as beneficence and non-maleficence, should be taken into account while implementing consent. Children may have different concerns than adults when it comes to giving their informed permission. Considerations regarding informed consent may vary between adults and children. In particular, under the law, children lack the ability to offer their informed permission. So, their parents or guardians must make the choices for them. Nevertheless, therapists have a legal responsibility to preserve patients’ autonomy unless there are restrictions in cognitive competence. Informed consent is handled differently in adult psychiatry. An article by Cyna insight the ethical dilemma of obtaining informed permission from patients who are emotionally distressed (Cyna, & Simmons, 2017). The report contends that in such a scenario, the clinician's first concern should be with damage prevention and finding methods of fulfilling responsibilities without resorting to paternalism. ...
