Introduction
Communication is defined as an act of receiving and sending information and this can be non-verbal, verbal or written. For efficient healthcare delivery, communication in the healthcare industry is very important. It needs more than identifying the problem or diagnosis or performing procedures for health care facilities and hospitals, but it also includes that every step is taken to ensure proper management. Communication is vital at every step of the healthcare process. The need of effective as well as concise communication is always existed in health care setup, whether for communicating clinical information to patients or to other health care professionals about the management of patients (Ratna, 2019). The aim of this essay is to discuss how communication in health care system can facilitate effective patients’ care and what develops effective communication between patients and health care professionals.
Main Body
The effective communication is very important between health care professionals and patients in order to deliver quality health services to patients. Enhancing efficient communication between patients and health care professionals needs skills to conduct interviewed based on patient-centered principles, discussing in a communicative and caring fashions; and involving in mutual decision-making process with patients and their family members. According to Schickedanz et al (2013), Patient-centered communication is a key to develop good relationship and without it, it would be difficult for health care professionals to develop therapeutic relationship with patients. Secondly, understanding patients’ culture is important to communicate effectively as it will play a significant role in enhancing comfort level of patients. This will facilitate communication and patients will be able to share their concerns and needs more effectively. Individuals and organizations can overcome environmental barriers to communication by providing an environment free of external outside interference like noise and other barriers that will help patients to vocalize their concern without any disturbance.
Outcomes of patients depend on positive communication. Health care professionals who motivate open communication are more likely to get complete data and information about patients’ health status, thus enhance the likelihood of a correct diagnosis. This will enhance appropriate counselling, thus enhances treatment adherence plan that will benefit patients in a long run. Through discussion and general agreement between the patients and healthcare professionals, this kind of communication, also known as the partnership model, improves patient involvement in their health care. Health care professional can make patients feel acknowledged, assuage their worries, and urge them to reveal pertinent information through proper communication (Kourakos et al,2018).
