Effects of Caffeine on Cognitive Functions
Caffeine is a natural stimulant that enhances the functions of the body. The stimulant operates by triggering the brain and central nervous system. It is considered as an enhancer but not a hazard to the body since it improves brain functions and mood, augments metabolism and fat burning, improves performance in exercise, and contributes to the protection of diabetes and heart diseases.
Caffeine elevates brain functions and mood. It achieves this by blocking the trappings of adenosine-a neurotransmitter that lazes one's brain and makes them feel exhausted. The barred adenosine molecules give room for other molecules such as dopamine and norepinephrine which spur the brain and generate a state of focus and arousal. These facts are backed by Almosawi et al. (2018) who noted in their study that the mice that ingested 5.5-10 mg of caffeine experienced improved alertness, and shortened recall and reaction time. Besides elevating mood and brain functions, caffeine also boosts metabolism and fat burning.
