Introduction
Stress can be simply defined as a state of mental or emotional tension that comes as a result of demanding circumstances. When one senses danger or demanding situation, whether real or imagined, the body rearrange its defense mechanisms in a high gear and an automatic process commonly known as “fight or flight”. This state makes one get ready to act or respond to any occurrence. Stress in its entirety is not a comfortable situation which one needs to stay in for a long time because it can cause harm to an individual’s health (McEwen, 2008, P178). In our everyday life, people tend to encounter situations that lead them to develop stress. However, stress varies from little to big depending on how demanding the situation one is facing. A more demanding situation evokes a high degree of stress which is harmful when it persists for longer(Zuzanek, Robinson, Iwasaki, 1998, p256). This paper explains how stress can affect our health and also some positive effects of stress.
