Pesticides are toxic chemicals designed to destroy pests, but a large percentage enter into the water in rivers and streams. Pesticides gain access to rivers through runoff from fields. The main sources of pesticides are from industries and agricultural lands, which are sprayed with pesticides to control weeds or pest infestation. The majority of pesticides that are exposed to rivers and streams are fatal and causes diseases if ingested by living organisms. This paper highlights the effects of pesticides in rivers and streams.
