Undoubtedly, the reported cases on the effects of misuse of antibiotics cause concern to the world's population. The World Health organization has become more alert on the issue and has prescribed various strategies to mitigate the menace some of which border s establishment of executive regulations to the health sector. Saudi Arabia is keen on ensuring its population is safe especially, those with health conditions (Bilal et al., 2002). However, the input to ensure people do not misuse drugs has since been futile. The introduction of the Executive Regulations of Health Practice Law that prohibits pharmacists from dispensing antibiotics without prescription is set to safeguard the population from the effects of drug misuse (Kurdi et al., 2020). This law comes at a time where numerous researches have been conducted showing that the majority of people still consume antibiotics without prescription despite knowing the dangers.
This law was occasioned by the following reasons: Saudi Arabia pharmacists and other crucial healthcare providers have easy access; quick services without restrictions on medication procedures hence have a higher proclivity of issuing antibiotics without prescription. Therefore, this has led to an unprecedented increase in the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in Saudi Arabia thus calling for the introduction of the law. Secondly, research shows that most patients use drugs intentionally for wrong health reasons. For instance, some patient uses antibiotics as analgesics or for prophylaxis. Therefore, the introduction of the law will ensure that the antibiotics are used for the right reasons. Essentially, this law originated from the outcomes of the mentioned reasons. Saudi Arabia has made a step towards ensuring that the medication regulations are observed at all times.
