Messages outlined in the IOM report
In the IOM report, the Future of Nursing looks at how nurses' duties, responsibilities, and education should adjust to satisfy the growing demand for care that healthcare reform will bring. The key messages include:
Practicing to the complete scope of their education. Nurses have great potential in improving the healthcare system and delivering the best medical services despite facing barriers and work-related issues. Problems facing practicing nurses have been the greatest threat and hinder nurses from performing as expected. Policymakers, government, and all involved stakeholders come together to get solutions to the problems as this helps nurses work to their full extent.
Nurses to acquire higher education and training. Through the advanced learning system that facilitates flawless academic progress, nurses are expected to achieve high education and training (Goldsberry 2018). Undertaking advanced nursing programs such as ASN, MSN and DNP is an assurance of current and future generations of quality nurses and caregivers.

Effective workforce planning and policymaking. Policymaking eliminates the risks of recurring problems in nursing. To achieve substantial transformation in nursing, a strategic care plan is essential. This plan requires data collection and infrastructure to gather and analyze workforce data.
