Compare and contrast Government and Private EMS services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) plays an important role in providing urgent services to patients outside the hospital premises. EMS's main goal is to provide treatment to patients who need urgent medical care, treat the disease, or organize transport to a health facility (Jacobs et al., 2017). This service usually doesn't function alone, but instead, it is connected with various departments that aim to maintain and enhance the community members' health and safety. EMS may consist of services that are developed to move critically ill patients or respond to medical emergencies. There are many types of Ems services, including government EMS and Private EMS.
Both the government and Private EMS are emergency services offered to patients who need urgent care outside the hospital facilities. They assist in providing transport to the patients to be transferred to healthcare facilities for adequate medical care. They are required to assist in the event of an emergency to enhance community health and safety.
The local government funds government EMS and they usually operate separately from the fire and police area of service. The government EMS services are not charged because the local or national government funds them. On the other hand, private EMS is a commercial company with employees but is on contract with the government. They are usually funded by private owners who are focused on making a profit from their business. All services offered are usually charged.
Government EMS is meant to handle critically ill patients within the community. They provide both patient transport and medical care for the patient. On the other hand, private EMS can provide only the patient transport element of the ambulance care. However, they may also be sub-contracted to provide emergency care response. I interviewed with a paramedic in charge of our department Mr. Washington who informed me that government EMS are usually on demand, and sometimes they may not be available because they are engaged elsewhere (Washington, 2021).
Private clients can contract private EMS to offer standby EMS for big company events such as parades, sports, or conventions. On the contrary, the government EMS services cannot be contracted by private clients. They are only meant to provide care for the community members because they are a government project funded by taxpayers' money. Therefore, they are required to be easily available to offer emergency care to the community when the need arises.
Private EMS has the advantage of being easily accessible and available when there are genuine emergencies. Besides, they are easily available worldwide to provide emergency service, and they are not limited to only big cities (Gache et al., 2013). However, the government EMS is not easily accessible because of the wide coverage of emergencies and huge dem
