Diagnosis
The client was diagnosed with Delirium from the symptoms exhibited. There was a change from the normal cognitive operations of the client, such as teaching and volunteer work after hip replacement to the current situation of disorientation, distraction, lack of concentration and failure to recognize surroundings (Caraceni & Grassi, 2010).
What Family and Client Can Expect
Considering the patient’s age, the family should expect progress of the condition with symptoms such as language disturbances where the patient may have difficulty finding words and sometimes illogical conversations. The family can also expect emotional state fluctuations from the patient (First & Tasman, 2011).
Treatment Approaches
The best medical treatment for the patient is the use of an antipsychotic drug in this case Haloperidol. The drug will be administered through an injection given every four weeks having taken into consideration the patient’s condition which may hinder him from remembering to take his medication. The technique is effective in that the therapist will be able to gauge the patient’s condition and have a clear perspective of the problem. Such is facilitated by the therapist’s ability to measure the changes in behavior and cognition of the patient.
Group courses- The patient will be encouraged to take part in group activities. Doing so will help the patient in sharing with others about his condition and thus more benefits in terms of acquiring more knowledge on how to tackle his condition.
Reading of self-help material- Self-help material will be provided to the patient. The technique is effective in that the patient gets to a...
